Shangarh - The Pride of Sainj Valley

Do it with passion or don’t do it at all! I was looking for a secluded place during the chaotic May-June 2022 and I was not even willing to compromise with the mesmerizing beauty of Himachal Pradesh.

That's when Shangarh happened to me. This place is meant for nature lovers who aren’t bothered about much of luxury.

Shangarh is located in Sainj Valley, Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh state in North India. Tourism is slowly and gradually developing in this region, and local's too are vibing with it.

What Shangarh has to offer

Shangarh offers a lot to mesmerize you -- Temple, Meadows, Waterfalls, Treks, Secluded Trails, and peace of being in the Himalayas.

Rupi Raila Waterfall

This place is also known as a hidden waterfall in Sainj Valley. This place is located at an offbeat location enroute Shangarh.

A short trek to this waterfall is worth it. I mean it when I say that the water shower will release all your tiredness from the journey.

Shangarh Meadows

Just expect a quiet and pleasant place with a huge ground and a temple with slate roof. Needless to say the vibe of the place will captivate you.

Barshangarh Waterfall

This waterfall requires around 1 km of trek. Be prepared to expect bushes, muddy path, and a narrow passage. Reaching the waterfall is an amazing experience in itself.

How to reach

Bus- You can easily reach Aut tunnel from Delhi, Chandigarh or Manali.

Only limited buses are available until Shangarh.

Hence the best recommendation is to take a bus until Bhuntar or Kullu. Post that you may rent a self-driven bike or chauffeur driven car.

Nominal cost to rent a bike would be Rs.800/- for a day (fuel excluded) while private cab from Bhuntar or Kullu will charge you between Rs.2000 to Rs.3000/-

Where to Stay

Solo travelers may opt for homestays or hostels like Zostel, Gostops, Last Chalet but I would strongly recommend Tree Camping – A unique experience wherein you sleep in the air.

Nominal cost for a dorm bed in hostel is Rs.500/- while cost for tree house or home stay would somewhere between Rs.1000 – Rs.1500/-

Where to Eat

Though there are couple of cafes, including CafeStories, Mountain View, you may also order food from local food shops, else all properties serve food for their in-house guests.
