🌄Road Trip: Delhi → Ranthambore → Bundi

Dr. Prateek Sapra is based out of New Delhi. A crazy nomad who loves to explore unexplored and offbeat destinations. He believes that every destination has a message that communicates with him. With each trip, he tries to convey the message he receives from each destination to his readers. "Be what you are. There's no need to be like others" This is what he lives by and hopes that he can inspire others to live their best lives too. Happy exploring!
It was around 6:30 PM when we started our journey from Gurgaon, aiming to reach Ujjain by night. However, the condition of the Mumbai Expressway turned out to be far from ideal.
As we hit the expressway, it was already dark — and to our surprise, there were no streetlights. The complete absence of lighting made the drive uncomfortable and slightly risky. On top of that, the amenities and food options along the expressway were quite limited. Considering these factors, we decided to pause our journey and take an overnight halt instead of pushing through.
🏨 Night Halt at Ranthambore
After a long drive, we finally reached Ranthambore around 1:30 AM and checked into a hotel for the night. The next morning began on a delightful note with a traditional Rajasthani breakfast — Dal Baati Churma, rich gravies, and aromatic spices. We dined at Kanha Restaurant, which I highly recommend to anyone visiting Ranthambore — their authentic flavors are something I’ll remember forever.
🐅 Jungle Safari & Ganpati Temple Visit
Post breakfast, our day kicked off with a Jungle Safari inside the Ranthambore National Park, followed by a visit to the Ganpati Temple nestled deep within the forest.
Locals shared stories about recent tiger encounters with civilians, which led the government to introduce stricter safety regulations. Now, only vehicles with RJ25 registration (local to the area) are allowed inside; no private vehicles, walking, or cycling are permitted — a necessary step to prevent further incidents.
The safari experience was surreal — the wilderness, the calm, and the temple’s spiritual aura made it a memorable day.
🚗 Next Stop: Bundi
After exploring Ranthambore, we headed to Bundi, about 2.5 hours away. The narrow roads made the drive a bit challenging but enjoyable nonetheless. We reached Bundi by around 8:30 PM and checked into Zostel, a cozy and traveler-friendly stay.
🍧 Foodie’s Delight in Bundi
Once settled, we set out to explore Bundi’s food scene. Mahavir Kulfi turned out to be a highlight — a must-visit spot for their incredible kulfi and shakes.
The next morning, we tried Jain Kachori (Located next to Kacheri- office), another local favorite that lived up to its reputation.
🏰 Exploring Bundi
Our final day was dedicated to exploring Bundi’s charm — its ancient architecture, narrow lanes, and a spiritual vibe that slightly reminded me of Kashi (Varanasi).
Places we explored in Bundi comprises: Raniji ki Baori, Sukh Mahal, Taragarh Palace & Chitrashala and 84 Pillars.
Don’t forget to try Krishna’s tea, a local favorite, and if you love collecting souvenirs, you’ll find beautiful paintings, handmade paper products, stamps, and miniature swords — perfect mementos to carry home.
🏠 Back to Delhi
After soaking in the beauty of Rajasthan, we began our return journey, which took around 6–7 hours.
