Dapoli- The Less Known Beach Destination of India

India has a coastal line of over 7500 kms with a huge potential though it’s unfortunate that only few destinations like Goa and some parts of Kerala attract tourists.

Dapoli is located in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra state of India and offers an authentic niche rural experience to the visitors. It’s accessibility from major cities of Maharashtra i.e. Mumbai, Pune act as a cherry on the cake.

Dapoli is a perfect fit for the Beach lovers who are seeking non-commercial authentic beach destination experience.

Distance from Mumbai to Dapoli is 230 odd kms. comprising 5:30 hours of journey, while journey comprise of 5 hours if you would commence your trip from Pune city.

 

Activities/ Places to visit

Murud Beach- This is one of the popular beach located at Dapoli, you may enjoy Sunset at beach side or you may opt for Water sport activities which is available at rock bottom prices as compared to Goa.

Light House- The coastal view and the breeze from this place is mesmerising.

Goa Fort- Imagine feeling the cold breeze with a view of fort Island and the Arabian sea from the edge of the fort. This is one of the most picturistic spot located in Dapoli.

There are a couple of more secluded beaches and small cafes to hop around.

 

Where to Stay

There are a plenty of home stay's and luxury properties available, we were able to find a beach front property for just INR 1800 (USD $22.5) during the month of October’23, while alternate options in the village starts from INR 800 (USD $10) per night.

 

Where to Eat

Sea food lovers are going to love this place; moreover there are plenty of options varying from homemade food to commercial dine-in restaurants. Average meal cost for each individual will cost between INR 200 – 800, depending on the restaurant you may opt.

 

How to Reach

Frequency of public transport is not that great as the destination is still virgin, though few tourist buses operate from Mumbai thrice a week (depending on demand) or the best way around is to reach nearest Airport which is Pune City Airport, located 200 kms. from Dapoli, then you may rent a vehicle to reach Dapoli.

What Else To Take Care Off 

Last but the least, ensure to carry enough cash as UPI payment may not work properly due to network fluctuation and also ensure to fill adequate Fuel in your vehicle as only few fuel stations are available in the ghat, and ensure to take a pitstop at Mulshi lake while heading back :)
