Bogota- The Colombian City Located on Mountains

Bogota- The third largest capital by elevation globally

The capital city of Colombia is Bogota, located in the southern part of the country. Every age group, especially youngsters , will find something of interest to do or see. There is pleasant weather and scenic mountain views, cultural sites, and old Spanish-style architecture, as well as modern buildings, to see.

This city is located at an elevation of around 8600 feet, surrounded by Andres mountains, making this place scenic and pleasant in terms of weather.

Here are some popular spots, which you couldn’t afford to miss during your visit to Bogota, Colombia

Usaquen Plaza

Usaquen is located in the Northern part of the city; this place is popular for street walks and authentic Colombian restaurants. It would be an ideal decision to spend an evening exploring the streets and restaurants at Usaquen Plaza; I would love to recommend Crepes & Waffles restaurant for authentic Colombian food.

Plaza de bolivar

This is the main square of Bogota city. The majority of the buildings were constructed during the Spanish colonial period. The beautiful architecture of the cathedral and other buildings, against the backdrop of the Andes mountains makes this a picturesque place to snap some beautiful photos.

Monserrate Hill Top

The Monserate Hill Top and the Church located on the hill top are also beautiful destinations to visit. Spiritual  visitors will love the church and the view of Bogota city from the mountaintop is something you have to see.

Hill top can be reached through Funicular Railway, Cable car or by foot, while the estimated round trip cost for the cable car and funicular railway will cost you approximately USD 7 per person. Tip- Reach there on time as you would be asked to vacate the hill top before dark.

La Candaleria

This place is located within walking distance from Plaza de Bolivar and popular for it's street food, street cafes, restaurants, live music and so much fun :)

Dinner at top of the world, La Calera

Well, this is not the name of any place; that’s the experience which I am trying to craft in words, there are a couple of restaurants located at the hill top at La Calera, wherein you may enjoy your drinks and meal while gazing at the panoramic night view of the Bogota city from an elevation of around 9000 feet. One of the recommended restaurant includes The Beer Wagon Pub.

You may take a direct cab through popular applications like Uber, Cabify etc. to reach this place.

What else to expect from Bogota

Amazing coffee shops, traditional coconut lemonade, cheap liquor, and a lot of shopping malls and restaurants are easily accessible from any part of the city.

Also, don't forget to buy authentic handcrafted products, such as Colombian caps, and ground Arabica coffee powder before leaving Colombia.

How to reach

Bogota’s El Dorado airport is well connected with direct/connecting flights globally.

Commute within the city

You may use the public transport (Buses) or opt for point to point cab through popular applications like Uber, Cabify etc.

Where to eat

Since Bogota is the capital of the country; hence, finding food is not a concern; there are a lot of shopping malls at almost every corner wherein, you will find plenty of food options.
