Dream Ride to Leh'd

Leh’d – Pilgrimage of riders. I am riding since 2012 and riding in terrains of Ladakh was my dream since long time and finally 2016 gave me escape from my work and other responsibilities. Some experienced riders and my other friends warned me to not to go with my 2009 make FZ but my dream was to accomplish this ride with my own baby so 2nd preference was not an option for me. Obviously this was my best ride I ever had. Even though we had to face some minor breakdowns, sanitation problems but that was part of adventure and obviously we were mentally prepared for that. My attitude towards riding has changed after that ride and world, distances seems smaller.

We started our ride on 29th may’16 from Delhi and our target was to reach Jammu which we managed to cover in 13 hours along with 22 Riders and 1 Car. Our camping site was next to river bank which also become our bathroom for 30thMay morning. Everything went smooth further our target was to reach Srinagar on next day (30th may’16) but due to severe weather condition we had to stop 80 kms prior to Srinagar. We took permission from

a petrol pump owner to setup our camp for overnight stay and nearby local Dhaba treated us with a delicious food.

Next day – 31st May’16 Our target was to enter in territory of Ladakh. We started post having breakfast and discovered panoramic beauty of Kashmir valley enroute (Srinagar – Zojila pass – Drass). Crossing Zoji la pass was lifetime experience narrow roads with incline full of slush, trucks but we manage to cross Zoji la and entered Ladakh safely. We ended our ride for the day in a village 26kms prior to Drass.

1st June – We further proceeded towards Zanskar valley. We had also visited Kargil war memorial enroute. Post crossing Kargil city we had covered 90 kms and finalized a site to setup our camp for overnight stay. Since that place was Inhabitat so we had arranged raw material and cooking equipments in advance for our dinner. We also found few small villages between Kargil and Zanskar valley and we were shocked to hear that few villagers was not even aware of Delhi – the Capital of their country and only few of them know 2nd language apart of their

mother tongue – Ladakhi.

2nd June – We decided to proceed towards Leh city. Post hitting Kargil – Leh highway I lost my gamma in the land of lama. View throughout the highway was more than awesome and BRO (Border roads organization) did amazing job all I can say is – God has made Ladakh and BRO has connected Ladakh with rest of the world. We took lot of pictures enroute. We stop at Lumayaru for lunch which is famous for its monastery. Further we had to end our ride for the day at Kargil – Leh highway at a spot 80 kms prior to Leh city.

3rd June – We proceeded our ride towards Leh city early in the morning. Enroute towards Leh we had also visited Magnetic hill road and Gurudwara pathar sahib ji. Post reaching Leh we took hotel and spend evening in Leh market.

4TH June – Explored Leh city – Shanti stupa, Leh palace, Monasteries, Gompas etc

5th June – Post having breakfast we start heading towards Nubra valley we had also transit through Khardungla (World’s highest motorable road) enroute. Post crossing Khardungla

pass our height got decreased from 18000 feets to 10000 feets so we were able to easily breath since few of our fellow riders were facing breathing problem in Leh , Khardungla due to lack of oxygen as these places are located at huge height. Further we ended our ride for the day at Sumur (a village in Nubra valley)

6th June – Sight seeing at Nubra valley. We had visited Panamik which is known for sulphur springs and you will glad to know that Siachin base camp is just 60 kms away from panamik. Post bathing in panamik we proceeded towards Hunder (Another picnic spot in Nubra valley) We had also enjoyed ATV ride in sand dumes of Nubra valley enroute.

7th June – This day was quite challenging since we had opted for most difficult route to reach Pangong lake. We had crossed difficult terrains of Shyok valley on the way towards Pangong lake. Further we enjoyed panoramic beauty of Pangong lake and hired a restaurant (Not hotel) for night stay.

8th June – We started moving towards delhi through Leh – Manali highway but due to severe weather condition we

were able to cover just 178 kms and ended our ride for the day at Rumtse and local persons assisted us with home stay accommodation to spend overnight.

9th June – Weather was still not pleasant but we decided to move on, Post crossing Rumtse we had crossed Tanglangla pass (World’s 2nd highest pass) and we had also seen a frozen lake enroute. While crossing Tanglangla pass we were lucky enough to see snow fall and we also crossed Chang la pass in snow fall itself. Further we ended our ride for the day at Zing zing bar.

10th June – We enter Himachal Pradesh from Lahul Spiti district and crossed difficult terrains of Rohtangla pass and ended our day in Kullu.

11th June – Kullu to Delhi covered in 10 hours.
